Serendipity ~ a natural gift for making useful discoveries by accident
aka... "This Lady's Home Journal"
When we purchased our 105 year-old house we thought a thorough cosmetic overhaul was all it needed. We have since learned that houses built in 1900 need a little more TLC than that.
It has been our experience that most of our projects are delightful accidents, thus the arrival at naming this site. We're not restoring, but face-lifting. With a poorly-executed country theme prevalent throughout, we've begun with the largest project, the kitchen. Striving for an Olde World style, we're making progress... albeit a snails pace. It is our hope that you enjoy watching our progress as it unfolds.

And people wonder why we don't invite them over for dinner...

I know I said I wasn't going to post about the wood stove until the room was done, but as you can see that may be awhile. Besides, I wanted to mention something about the cost of wood going up!
Yes, that's right. Wood is going through the roof...literally, too! I understood last year's prices for a facecord of wood, at least in this area (Central NY), was roughly $45. Making a few phone calls I find that the average price is now about $65/fc, however, the price gets better with the more you buy. So, in ordering 12 fc the other day, I got it for $52.50 per fc. So that was a big fat ouch! Although the initial outlay for the wood stove may send us to the poor house this year, we will remember this time fondly in the years to come. Let's face it folks, gone are the days of reasonable gas and oil prices.
Oh, and did I mention that delivery for our wood is a month out?! That puts us at about the second week of November! However....and we're praying....there were plans for the company to hire another driver, so we're hoping to be stacking long before the snow flies. But, as you can see by the current status of the room, there's certainly no hurry. It would be comforting, however, to be able to build a toasty fire during these grey, rainy days. It's been raining here for a week straight, with no relief in sight. Talk about gloomy! Mix that with living in somewhat of a dump and you've got a sure-fire recipe for "dread!" Ugh! That's just the worst!
OK! So! On a happier note...it's Friday! And I have tomorrow to look forward to doing some more work on the dump....er...uh...I mean house. Hey...it can't be a dump forever, right? RIGHT?! Help me out here, folks!
