Serendipity ~ a natural gift for making useful discoveries by accident
aka... "This Lady's Home Journal"
When we purchased our 105 year-old house we thought a thorough cosmetic overhaul was all it needed. We have since learned that houses built in 1900 need a little more TLC than that.
It has been our experience that most of our projects are delightful accidents, thus the arrival at naming this site. We're not restoring, but face-lifting. With a poorly-executed country theme prevalent throughout, we've begun with the largest project, the kitchen. Striving for an Olde World style, we're making progress... albeit a snails pace. It is our hope that you enjoy watching our progress as it unfolds.

...for those of you who continually update your home improvment blogs! Ok...ok...maybe it's more like envy. Since school started, seems like there is hardly time to clean the place, no less fix'er up! And blogging about it? HA! Fat chance! The only reason I'm able to crank this out is because I gave the kids the day off for Columbus Day.
I will say, however, that we've installed the wood stove ~ inspector approved, I might add ~ and we're in the process of fixing the walls and ceilings. At first, we had decided to install the chimney out-and-up, in other words out the wall and up the side of the house (outside). After a peek at the soffit, we realized that wasn't going to happen so we opted to go through the ceiling and through the upstairs bedroom, then out the roof. We originally thought going outside would have been easier, but now that all is said and done, I believe this was the more simple route. Well, at least less dangerous. I'm not too fond of heights, and while my husband doesn't seem to have a problem with them, I believe I lost ten pounds of water weight just watching him up on the roof.
So....when the room is done, I'll be sure to post progress pictures. I've been taking them all along, but I like to post when everything is accomplished. In the meantime, I'll be checking in on your progress!
