Serendipity ~ a natural gift for making useful discoveries by accident
aka... "This Lady's Home Journal"
When we purchased our 105 year-old house we thought a thorough cosmetic overhaul was all it needed. We have since learned that houses built in 1900 need a little more TLC than that.
It has been our experience that most of our projects are delightful accidents, thus the arrival at naming this site. We're not restoring, but face-lifting. With a poorly-executed country theme prevalent throughout, we've begun with the largest project, the kitchen. Striving for an Olde World style, we're making progress... albeit a snails pace. It is our hope that you enjoy watching our progress as it unfolds.

One place! Just one spot in the house to go when I need everything neat, clean, orderly. A place to read. Relax. Dissolve. And guess what?
I'VE GOT IT!!!
Thursday night, when Brian said, "I'm going to sand tonight", all I could do was think about where the paint rollers were! And the dropcloths! And my trimming brush! All I could think about, too, was driving over the the store to get the perfectly-matched-to-the-sofa curtains I picked out. Which pictures would I hang on the walls...and where? Five little words and my blood pressure and stress level dropped...all because I had "one place" to look forward to...and it was imminent!
Woke up yesterday, found all my supplies, shook a can of primer and got going! It wasn't all that hot yesterday, but the humidity must have been 150%. Not only does it make it difficult to work, but the paint wasn't drying very quickly.
Anyway, here are a few before shots...

Hubba hubba! Nothing like progress to light a few fires!!!

It's a bit overcast today so I haven't been able to get very vibrant pictures of this room, but I guess this'll have to do for now. There is still work to be done; the other half of the room is behind my camera...ya know, where that ugly hutch is. I'm still dealing with that. Still need a new light fixture and to finish up some trim work, but to me, this is Shangri La! That's my Bible and laptop you see on the coffee table!!! I'm already taking full advantage of my mini oasis.
Just as a recap of my day yesterday... first I primed the walls. Then cut in the trim. Rolled out the new color; two coats. While that was drying, I ran to the (air-conditioned) store to purchase the new curtains...I took my time with this.
Got home, started adorning the bay window with my new purchase. As soon as that was done, Brian and I began moving furniture around and getting things into position. I think we lost a few pounds in water weight. Totally worth it!!! I'd still like to hang some things on the walls, but Brian advised that I wait until the humidity drops...everthing is still pretty tacky.
There's more, but I'll save it for another time!
