Denise: Oh, your bathroom is so pretty! We did ours a year ago but for some reason the border won't stay up. I think it's because the fan is old and just doesn't do the job removing moisture like it should. I had seen someone do sponge painting in a pretty blue and I thought I wouldn't mind trying that. They did it halfway up and then they did the edge with a stencil. It was really pretty when it was done and I think it would be the answer to our moisture problem. Your background here is really

halloweenlover: I was looking for an email address to send you a message, but couldn't find one! That is too funny that you lived in Boston! We have lots in common with towns and schools! I was showing my husband your beautiful floor and he wanted to know if you used a wet saw to cut the tiles or that tile cutter thing. We are pretty daunted by the basement task because it is 320 feet, but it will make SUCH a big difference.Your room is gorgeous! It definitely looks tuscan/italian. That is exactly the look
eric: just popin to say hi.

SANCTUARY!!!

  • Todays Project: The Total Livingroom!
  • Difficulty Level: 4 - just because it's so humid
  • Stress Level: 2 - this is rejuvenating!
  • Time Consumed: All Day

One place!  Just one spot in the house to go when I need everything neat, clean, orderly.  A place to read.  Relax.  Dissolve.  And guess what?

I'VE GOT IT!!!

Thursday night, when Brian said, "I'm going to sand tonight", all I could do was think about where the paint rollers were!  And the dropcloths!  And my trimming brush!  All I could think about, too, was driving over the the store to get the perfectly-matched-to-the-sofa curtains I picked out.  Which pictures would I hang on the walls...and where?  Five little words and my blood pressure and stress level dropped...all because I had "one place" to look forward to...and it was imminent!

Woke up yesterday, found all my supplies, shook a can of primer and got going!  It wasn't all that hot yesterday, but the humidity must have been 150%.  Not only does it make it difficult to work, but the paint wasn't drying very quickly.

Anyway, here are a few before shots...

This picture was taken during our inspection back in September.

A closeup of the wallpaper and wainscoting.

ROFL!  Can you believe this is the same room?  I moved all of its contents to the center so I could get at the wallpaper and rip off the wainscoting.

Beginning stages of skim-coating the walls.

My man!!!    Hubba hubba!  Nothing like progress to light a few fires!!!

And now....

It's a bit overcast today so I haven't been able to get very vibrant pictures of this room, but I guess this'll have to do for now.  There is still work to be done; the other half of the room is behind my camera...ya know, where that ugly hutch is.  I'm still dealing with that.  Still need a new light fixture and to finish up some trim work, but to me, this is Shangri La!  That's my Bible and laptop you see on the coffee table!!!  I'm already taking full advantage of my mini oasis.

Just as a recap of my day yesterday... first I primed the walls.  Then cut in the trim.  Rolled out the new color; two coats.  While that was drying, I ran to the (air-conditioned) store to purchase the new curtains...I took my time with this.   Got home, started adorning the bay window with my new purchase.  As soon as that was done, Brian and I began moving furniture around and getting things into position.  I think we lost a few pounds in water weight.  Totally worth it!!!  I'd still like to hang some things on the walls, but Brian advised that I wait until the humidity drops...everthing is still pretty tacky.

There's more, but I'll save it for another time!
